COURSE AIMS

The Ship Condition Surveyor course is designed to equip maritime professionals with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to conduct thorough and accurate condition surveys on marine vessels. This program provides a solid foundation in assessing a ship’s structural integrity, machinery condition, safety equipment, documentation, and overall seaworthiness in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Through detailed case studies, real-world survey scenarios, and hands-on guidance, learners will understand how to identify defects, evaluate maintenance issues, recognize non-compliance, and prepare clear, professional survey reports. Emphasis is placed on safety during surveys, documentation review, communication with ship officers, and applying international standards such as SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and class rules.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn how to plan, execute, and report ship condition surveys used for pre-purchase inspections, insurance surveys, chartering assessments, PSC readiness checks, flag-state compliance, and general vessel condition monitoring. The course covers hull and deck inspections, machinery and engine room evaluations, cargo space assessments, etc.

At the end of this course participants will be able to schedule, plan and prepare for a survey. They will have the skill to interpret survey requirements and recognize what can and cannot be done within the Rules of Classification and Statutory Regulations, in order to identify Port State Control issues and the consequences of ship detention.
